We are delighted to share that the Financial Times has profiled the Sustainable Healthcare with Digital Health Data Competence (SUSA) consortium in its 5 March 2025 feature, “EU project launched to prepare health workers for a digital future.”
The article, written by Clive Cookson, explores how our 12-university partnership is embedding advanced digital-health skills in 46 bachelor’s and master’s programmes and 16 life-long-learning modules across nine countries.
“We are creating a workforce that can harness digital health data to revolutionise patient care, improve efficiency and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable healthcare system.”
— Professor Minna Isomursu, SUSA Project Lead, University of Oulu
Cookson’s piece highlights three pillars that make SUSA unique:
- Interdisciplinary education – medical, nursing and engineering faculties co-design curricula anchored in 20 shared learning objectives, five of which focus on the ethical and technical dimensions of AI.
- Industry collaboration – five SME partners from Finland, Ireland, Greece, Portugal and Belgium will provide internships and real-world case studies that keep course content aligned with frontline needs.
- Pan-European mobility – students and mid-career professionals can complete exchanges or placements in any of the nine participating countries, spreading best practice and building a border-less talent pool.
